When does the sea water get warmest?

Turkey's four coasts don't warm up at the same pace. The Aegean and the Mediterranean bank the most heat in July–August; sea water peaks in those two months too, topping 28°C in some bays. The Marmara follows a similar curve but stays a few degrees cooler. The Black Sea reacts later — currents that keep mixing with deep, cold water mean it lags weeks behind the other coasts both warming up and cooling down; it usually hits its warmest days between late August and September.

The "suitable for swimming" badge rests on one threshold: 24°C and above. It's not a scientific standard, just a practical cutoff — 21–24°C is labelled "cool but swimmable", anything below that "cold". Points under the threshold don't drop off the list, only the badge changes; if you're fine with colder water, you can still swim.

How current is the sea temperature data?

Data refreshes every hour; the number you see is the result of that hourly pull. If a point's reading is older than 3 hours it gets an "updated" note but the temperature keeps showing; past 12 hours it drops to "no data". So the value you see is either very fresh, or the page tells you plainly that it isn't — it never goes stale silently.

Where does the data come from?

Sea water temperature, air temperature, wind and humidity all come from Open-Meteo's Marine and forecast APIs — a free, open weather/ocean model service. Advenway doesn't take its own measurements; every point relies on this service's hourly model pull.

My area isn't on the list — can it be added?

Points here are drawn from the coordinates already in Advenway's diving and windsurfing database, so a spot needs to exist there first. If the area you're after isn't listed, get in touch — the list grows automatically as that pool does.
