For beginners, offshore winds and gusty conditions receive a lower suitability score.

For intermediate riders, gust spread and wave conditions are evaluated together.

Experienced mode: offshore wind directions are included in the suitability score. Do not ride alone at spots without reliable rescue support.

Marker numbers match the rank numbers in the list. Clicking a point highlights the matching card below.

Ranking weighs suitability, wind, gust spread, direction, wave and the length of the suitable window together.

Wind alone does not mean conditions are safe. Forecast models are not a substitute for local observations; always check current conditions before entering the water.

The direction assessments on this page are calculated automatically from coastline geometry. How the wind actually behaves, where the water shallows, at what hour it starts to shift — only someone who is there knows that.

How to Read the Data

What Is Behind the Numbers?

A Model Forecast, Not a Field Measurement

Local topography, the shape of the coast and sudden weather changes mean real conditions can differ from the forecast.

Wave: An Open-Sea Value, Different Inside a Bay

Wave figures are an open-sea model forecast; local conditions inside a bay can differ. Water depth, rocks, currents and the entry point are not covered by this data.

Direction Assessment: A 16-Point Coastline Scan

For every spot the coastline geometry is scanned in 16 directions: how many uninterrupted kilometres the wind travels over water from that direction (fetch), and whether the downwind corridor is closed off by land. Directional shares are derived from historical model data for the summer months.

Direction Matters More Than Speed

In windsurfing the direction of the wind matters as much as its speed. The same 18 knots can be an enjoyable flat-water session at one spot and a dangerous day that drags you offshore at another. For every spot this tool works out where the wind is coming from, what that direction means given the shape of the coast, and which hours of the day are the best.

Why Does Choosing a Level Matter?

Along most of the Turkish coast the summer breeze blows from land out to sea. For an experienced sailor that is an ordinary condition; for a beginner it can mean a risk with no way back. That is why the same day and the same wind are rated differently depending on the level you choose. Use the Beginner / Intermediate / Experienced buttons above to switch the view.

Where Does the Data Come From?

Wind, gust, direction, temperature and precipitation forecasts, together with wave height, wave period and sea surface temperature, are taken hourly from Open-Meteo’s weather and marine models. Each spot’s coastline geometry (fetch, bay enclosure, ideal and risky directions) was computed from elevation data and validated against historical wind records. Spot analysis: Advenway.
