“Run 5 km, have a coffee, socialise.” Those three steps from 9 Eylül Runners’ Instagram bio sum up what kind of community this is. Introducing itself as “İzmir’s brand-new running culture”, the team is one of the young running groups that quickly passed 8,000 followers.
When and where do they run?

The club meets every Wednesday and Sunday around Alsancak. Runs are built around a 5-kilometre route, and there are walk-run and beginner groups for newcomers. The meeting point and time are announced separately for each run, and different routes such as Kültürpark join the programme from time to time. Sign-up goes through the registration link in the club’s WhatsApp channel, and registrations are checked before the run.
Coffee and conversation after the run are the usual rhythm here, but 9 Eylül Runners also steps outside the city’s routine now and then. At one meet-up they ran through İnciraltı Urban Forest and finished at the Tiny Notes festival grounds, followed by yoga, pilates and workshops. For the Lykos Half Marathon they organised a race trip, leaving İzmir by shuttle and spending the weekend together.
The most practical way to join is to follow the club’s WhatsApp channel, where the week’s route and the registration link are shared. A copy of the announcements also appears on their Instagram account.
