About this site

The largest armoured ship of the Ottoman navy; she was built in the 1870s and had her weapons and machinery renewed in Italy between 1899 and 1904. While anchored in Sarısığlar Bay to defend the entrance of the Dardanelles, she was sunk on 13 December 1914 by a torpedo from the British submarine HMS B11. She lies very close to the shore, at 9-12 metres.
