About this site

An Italian torpedo bomber nicknamed "Sparviero" (sparrowhawk). It was shot down by anti-aircraft fire while bombing the island of Meis (Kastellorizo) in the Second World War. It lies between 55 and 71 metres; the depth, and a current that sometimes forces dives to be called off, make it suitable only for very experienced technical divers. Some sources state that the wreck in this area is not an SM.79 but an SM.81 shot down in 1941; the aircraft's identity has not been settled.

Diving rules

Underwater cultural assets are covered by Turkish Law no. 2863. Diving at these sites is done only through authorized dive centers and in line with the published rules.
